Google Being Forced To Sell Chrome? You May Need To Migrate For Now

Okay, Google has lost its case with the DOJ (Department Of Justice), for being such a monopolist. Well, you as a customer needs to prepare for the worst of the worst as Google loses their intellectual property, and that’s right!! Google will be losing their Chrome browser for good.

Well, you don’t need to use Google Search for everyday use, just like I usually use each day. Typically, I use Firefox as my default driver for internet browsing, and I normally use this browser for productivity as an oppose to Chrome.

If you are a Firefox user like I am, and you are NOT using Chrome… you don’t need to take any action. However; if you use Chrome occasionally, just like I do; a possibility of Chrome being sold is on its way, and I’ll show you how to completely migrate from Chrome to Firefox. I am also going to cover other topics on this post. It’s not just ditching YouTube, Google Drive, Blogger, and other Google products what we use everyday.

The Story

You woke up this morning, and you were about to open your Chrome browser on your Linux computer, you usually continue taking care of business by publishing new posts on your website.

Somehow; you got a notification from a new owner who successfully bought out Chrome as a standalone company. The Chrome Company is born! And this is a crowd-funded company that offer free-to-remix anime, along with gaming, game development, and other products that are free. Also, the Chrome Company has launched their own search engine,–after they implemented a selection screen for customers to pick a search engine.

The Chrome Web-Store Now Offers Physical Products

You were about to visit the Chrome store where you download extensions, now… you can buy physical goods that may be ideal for customers who want a physical Chrome product, such as retro gaming systems, and even a possibility of having computers running FreeDOS for developing software, or run legacy software.

You use your funds to purchase your machine, and you customize it like ordering pizza from Dominos.

You wait for days for your computer to be delivered to you, mainly for your child who wants to code an open-source game.

Your package arrives at your apartment door, or your office door.

You unbox your new FreeDOS computer, and you start it up.

You are now proud of having a physical Chrome product, and you are greeted with a browser selection on your PC, Firefox, Chrome, or Brave,–or other browser what you want to use.

Whatever Happened To Google Wallet

You were about to order some Japanese to celebrate, but you can’t use Google Wallet because, its a different company now. You use PayPal as your preferred payment method of choice.

You wait for minutes.

You got a delivery, and you got your meal in time.

This Is YouTube That Is “De-Googled” For Now… Let’s Take A Look!

You were about to head to YouTube as your daily driver for uploading your content, but you were been greeted by a message:

To ALL YouTube Users:

We are now an independent company; we are now offering a new kind of a CMS that will enable you to run a self-hosted version of YouTube on your own server. However; this is an effort to ensure we convince ALL creators to migrate ALL of their content to their own servers outside of YouTube. Each user will be able to easily migrate to their new servers with our new API. Copyright owners are required to offer licensing for everyone because, we changed our TOS, and our community guidelines to make it clear for our community who still want to use YouTube.

We’ve been broken away from Google by force, and we have to be a standalone company. However; we are further splitting YouTube to ensure we make it esier for our users to enjoy this platform. Now, YouTube Music is renamed as “YouTube FM”… however; we have a new AM station with an HD FM station available for our community who don’t use computers to play music.

If you want to monetize your videos; you need to choose a monetization platform wisely.

By the next time you upload, and you have the necessary rights; do your homework, and ONLY obtain permission from copyright owners who you trust.

You were shocked because, you need to migrate to a new VPS for your videos. However; YouTube offers you $4,000 as a payment for ALL users who need to migrate to servers outside of YouTube, and use YouTube the different way.

You migrate ALL of your videos, and companies and independent owners offer licensing like a storm, and YouTube’s Content-ID program shuts down as a way to force copyright owners to offer licensing as a mandatory condition.

YouTube’s servers begin to shrink.

YouTube TV uses a TV domain as a way to ensure this platform can be turned into local independent TV stations,–with user-provided content.

You got a payment via your bank deposit.

You take your time as you migrate ALL of your videos.

YouTube channels become easy to identify via subdomains for people who want to make money with their works,–causing the poor to make more money than you thought.

The Google TV Company

Google TV Company becomes a licensed streaming platform with support for third party providers. Also, you get an opportunity to use this platform to produce your own content, or work with other content creators, no agent required!

Google TV becomes an independently operated channel for TVs.

Let’s Take A Look Of Blogger

Blogger is now an independent company for blogging services for people who want to run blogs without breaking the bank,–and an ability to monetize their works with a subscription, or with a donation button of choice.

You just use Blogger like normal, and you discovered your ability to rely on Google has been removed.

Also, bloggers who Blogger has managed to get their wrongfully-removed blogs back from Google’s deceptive control.

You get an opportunity to connect to other blogging platforms. However; you have an ability to promote your blog posts for anyone to see your works like usual. However; your ability to share your work is possible,–thanks to other platforms what you rely on.

Android Becomes An Independent Company

Android phones are able to be better than you thought; you get to customize how your phone is going to look like, and bring back use of physical buttons.

Android tablets are able to be better than you thought.

Android TV devices are now better than they used to be. At this case, you can use creative tools to create anime, and other projects.

This Android Company enables you to create anime for free, and even publish your work to make money, and distribute your work around the world, and you can also stream anime from select sources that are either supported by advertisements, or with a subscription via any independent creators,–or larger publishers.

If you can’t see; you can write light novels like a pro!

Android sStore for shopping may be included for purchasing official Android products that are open-source.

If you have an existing Android phone; your OS will be better than it used to be! And you don’t need to rely on Google as your primary provider for apps. Also, newer Android phones will bring back full sized SD cards for supporting offline gaming, and even an ability to play retro games.

If you have an existing Android tablet; it will be better than you remembered. Newer Android tablets are going to have full sized SD cards coming back,–including compact flash cards that are dedicated for games.

Your Android box will be better than it used to be. You get an opportunity to use it for games to play.

Why Migrate From Chrome To A Different Browser… Prior To Forced Sale?

The United States Department Of Justice is using their efforts to break up Google’s monopoly by forcing Google to sell Chrome. This is a sign your data needs to migrate from Chrome,–prior to this browser reaching a new buyer. Who is going to buy Chrome? Well, I don’t know, but let me hold my thought later on this post.

If you are used to using your Chromebook, or a Chrome browser on your PC, Mac, Android, or an Apple device, and you were about to open your browser to do normal productive tasks, such as writing books, posting new posts, making videos, making games, or other fun things… you may be wondering about Google’s loss of their browser, Chrome. Don’t panic! You can implement the following as a preparedness,–before Chrome gets sold to a new owner, or being turned into a new company who will own this browser as a standalone company.

Use An Importer Tool

If you have a Linux, Windows, Mac, or any OS… find a tool via a browser that is NOT Chrome, such as Firefox, or other browser of choice. Each browser has its own instructions, so refer to these support articles written by developers.

Please choose your next browser wisely!

If you have a Chromebook; you’re stuck using Chrome like usual. However; you can use a different computer for managing your browser data.

If you already imported your data, skip this step.

Note:

Brave Web Browser, and other Chromium-based browsers may work with your Chrome-based extensions, you may need to give it a try.

Change Passwords After Migrating (recommended)

Okay, you migrated from Chrome, and you are about to manage ALL of your credentials for ANY of these websites where you have an account with. Its strongly recommended to change passwords as you do a gradual hardening of securing your accounts, that way; if there are issues with your Chrome browser; you are preparing for an upcoming sell off of this browser.

Take your time as you change passwords each day. Also, you may need to speak to your system administrator about securing your account.

Follow these instructions when changing passwords for your accounts on various platforms. Each website/platform has a tool to change your password.

If you are a company; you may need to alert ALL of your employees about migrating from Chrome.

If you don’t have any data in your Chrome browser, and you are already using a different browser; skip this step.

Remove Google Chrome From Your PC (optional)

If you use PIE Ad Block, or any Chrome extension that is only exclusive to the Chrome Store, you can optionally keep your Chrome browser installed, and wait for a new owner to buy this browser, or a new company will be implemented as a way to “De-Google” Chrome from Google.

If you have a PC that uses a max of 4 GB of RAM, you may need to remove Chrome from your system. However; you can always migrate to a different browser.

For Debian Linux Users

If you use Ubuntu Linux, or any other Debian-based Linux distribution, open your terminal by typing Ctrl-Alt-T, and type the following:

sudo apt purge google-chrome-stable

Type y and press enter to confirm your action.

Use the following commands to clean up after remove Google Chrome:

sudo apt autoremove && sudo apt autoclean

After you are done, type exit to close your terminal.

Go to your settings, and pick Firefox as your default browser, or you can use any Chromium-based browser that is open-source.

For Windows Users

If you are removing Chrome from your Windows-based PC, you can go to your listed programs, and remove Chrome from your machine. You may need to restart your computer.

You need to set your default browser as you choose your best browser that is NOT Google-based.

Ensure your PC has a genuine copy of Windows installed, if not; go to Microsoft’s website and purchase a license before installing a downloaded version of Windows.

If you ONLY use Firefox as your daily driver, skip this step.

Cleaning Up

Delete downloaded Chrome installers offered by Google.

Go through your folders and ensure your packages are cleared out.

Windows users must check any registry entries that are left after removing Google Chrome.

DeGoogling

DeGoogling is one thing what you must do,–prior to DOJ’s successful breakup of Google and its monopoly. However; don’t close your Google Account at this moment because, you may need it for a while as we prepare for Google’s largest breakup,–after being forced to sell Chrome.

“De-Googling” Your Search Activity

Use Ecosia as a substitute for Google Search as your default search provider. This search engine is dedicated for planting trees, it tells you how many trees planted so far.

Depending on your browser; you can set your default search engine to this one what I mentioned earlier.

If you have an existing Android phone or any other device, you can download their browser to replace Chrome.

Migrate From YouTube To An Alternate Platform

Use a sustainable alternative to YouTube, or register for a virtual private server with a hosting provider who is sustainable, such as GreenGeeks, or if you have an existing computer; set up a new server for video production. If you continue to use YouTube, you can wait for YouTube to be a standalone company.

If You Use Google Drive

If you still use Google Drive, you need to use local file servers to store your files that are too sensitive when data breaches are a thing.

Find a sustainable file host that is available for you to backup your files.

Use LibreOffice

LibreOffice is an open-source office software that enables you to do similar things what Microsoft Office offers. You can do these same things what you usually do with Google Docs:

  • Write Books
  • Write Movie Scripts
  • Write News Reports
  • Manage Business Documents

  • Write Business Plans

If You Use Google Ads To Monetize Your Websites

Use Revive Ad Server, or any self-hosted ad hosting solution to help increase revenue of your sites what you currently own. This is useful for ensuring your ads meet your advertising guidelines, and sell your own ad zones to advertisers who want to advertise on your websites.

If you still rely on Google Ads for monetization, ensure you are prepared for a breakup of this company from Google.

My Thoughts

My thoughts of Google being forced to sell Chrome… is kind of like forcing Google to forfeit their intellectual property as a way to break up a huge monopoly.

If Chrome was DeGoogled, I will be proud, and I just can’t wait for this happen!

You can still do other productive activities without using Chrome, or Google. However; being a monopolist is NOT cool at all!
